Why it matters

Use the field definition to connect privacy with integrity, availability, provenance, consent, persistence, and relational exposure.

A simple example

A laboratory sends the right result to the wrong recipient. Another laboratory sends an incorrect result to the intended recipient after a sample mix-up. Both need attention, but only the first is primarily a confidentiality failure. Genetic security provides a vocabulary for discussing both without forcing every problem into the word “privacy.”

The field also includes continuity: whether a service, specimen collection, or genetic resource remains available and usable. Begin with the failure being considered, then identify the dimension and the people or resources it affects.
