Picture a search that produces a possible relative. The relationship can suggest a direction for research, but several people may fit parts of the emerging family history. A careful explanation preserves the work between a match and a candidate identity.

This is also why the privacy discussion extends beyond the eventual suspect. Participants and relatives may contribute information to the search without being implicated in the event under investigation. Describe their role precisely, and keep the rules governing access separate from the question of how matching works.
