Why it matters
Read files can preserve identifying sequence information. Control exports and associate checksums and instrument metadata with each transfer.
Keep transfer and interpretation connected
For a hypothetical exchange of sequence reads, a successful download answers only whether a file arrived. The receiving team also needs to know which sample it belongs to, whether it is complete, and which processing context should accompany it.
From a security perspective, treat the file and the information that identifies its origin as related assets. Restrict access according to the intended use and preserve enough transfer evidence to investigate a mismatch. A familiar file extension is not a guarantee of trustworthy contents or appropriate handling.
