Some resources need preservation approaches beyond ordinary dry seed storage. Continuity depends on the storage system, documented identity, and the ability to recover useful living material when required.

Imagine a collection preserves plant tissue because the material is difficult to maintain as stored seed. Recovery checks are needed to establish whether the preservation process supports the intended future use.
An important distinction
Cold storage alone is not proof of successful preservation. Different materials respond differently to freezing and recovery. An intact container with a reliable label still needs biological evidence that the stored material remains usable.
