Why it matters
Alignment files may carry sequence and sample metadata. Protect them as genomic assets and preserve the reference and processing context.
An alignment needs its context
In a review exercise, ask how an alignment file is linked to its inputs and reference. If a result is challenged later, the file name alone may not explain which processing choices produced it. Record those choices where a reviewer can connect them to the artifact.
The security concern is therefore broader than keeping the file unreadable to outsiders. It includes ensuring that users can distinguish the intended version from an old or altered one, and can associate the output with the correct sample and workflow.
